Carmino gliders are a fairly new color variation in the United States. They are very bright red to more brick colored with a red dorsal stripe and tail tip. They have dark eyes. They were originally imported from Indonesia. There are currently only three carmino lines. The carminos we own are from the S&S line started by Tyler Cleckley at GBG Exotics. Carmino is a recessive trait so both parents need to carry the gene to produce gliders that are visually carmino. The most common pairing is visual carmino x 100% carmino het. This would hypothetically result in 50% of offspring being visually carmino, and 50% of offspring being gray with 100% carmino het. Because the gene pool is so small, we cannot breed visual carmino x visual carmino. Carminos are slowly getting produced that are combined with other traits, such as mosaic or black face. We currently have a trio that we are hoping to prove out as carmino producers that if proven, will have the potential to produce carmino mosaics.
